PRESERVING FOR THE FUTURE
Understanding the conflicts and complexities
of heritage management
What is Heritage? Why do we spend so much time and effort preserving old buildings? Why are some structures neglected, while others are pristinely preserved? Who decides which building is worth preserving, and who pays for it?
For the last 25 years, the Urban Management Centre has been supporting listing and grading of heritage structures, drafting bye laws for their conservation and implementing urban design improvements in heritage precincts. We have also developed community engagement frameworks through which the city’s residents can be engaged for the preservation of heritage.
Anurag Anthony is the Chief Technical Officer of the Urban Management Centre. He is an architect and urban designer by training and has been the city anchor to implement heritage rejuvenation projects for Dwarka, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Jodhpur and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
This program will prepare you to address concerns of governance, finance, livelihoods, and architecture for urban heritage management.
